Riverboat Wine Voyages S3, Japan

Description

Taste over 50 wines over a series of 10 'voyages', as we explore the famous and the up-and-coming wine regions of the world! Now in its third season, the Riverboat's Wine Voyages gives you the opportunity to learn more about wine whilst enjoying it with friends in a fun and social atmosphere on board Singapore's very own floating F&B and lifestyle venue.

Begin with a welcome sparkling wine and tostada chips. Once everyone is settled in, listen to a short presentation on the day's featured country/region by our guest wine specialist Akimi Yeo, followed by a guided tasting sequence of 4-5 other wines. Feel free to share your thoughts along the way, and ask questions anytime along the journey.

THIS VOYAGE: JAPAN

Note: We had originally wanted to feature Japan and Taiwan together, but after realizing the diversity of Japanese wines during our preparation, we decided to shift Taiwan to a later date in Season 4 to give each country better exposure.

The Japanese are well known for their hardworking and perfectionist nature, and that spirit of excellence carries over into their winemaking. The island nation lies 32 to 46 degrees north in latitude, with some outlying islands farther south. With its location being well withing the northern wine belt, its proximity to large bodies of water, the cooling influences of Mount Fuji, and the unique volcanic soil conditions, Japan is poised to produce some really interesting wines to say the least!

Riverboat Wine Voyages Japan

Among all the wine-producing regions in Japan which include the famed Hokkaido up north, the one that outshines its counterparts hands down is the Yamanashi prefecture. Located north of Mount Fuji and just 100km away from Tokyo, Yamanashi accounts for 40% of Japanese wine production.

Takahata Yoshi Chardonnay Brut NV

Very fresh aroma of citrus, good solid structure and well balance from elegant acid with beautiful tiny bubbles

Marufuji Rubaiyat Kôshu Sur Lie 2015

Delicious and refreshing Koshu, mineral and citrusy, with a delicate flavour of peach and apricot

Marufuji Rubaiyat Muscat Bailey A Barrel Aged 2015

Using Muscat Bailey A as a main with a little of Petit Verdot to blend this fine wine. It has a blended rich and complex flavor from fruit scent.

Shirayuri L’Orient Sakura Rosé NV

Crisp and refreshing. Light-bodied, making it suitable as dessert wine.

Izutsu Niagara Dessert Wine 2014

Very brilliant sweet aroma, fresh & fruity like lynch, muscat and pear.
